Sharing Insights: Leveraging Connections for Professional and Personal Growth

The Quorum Initiative’s next event in Washington DC is on Tuesday, June 25th at the British Embassy rotunda. The event, entitled Sharing Insights: Leveraging Connections for Professional and Personal Growth, will be co-sponsored by Friends of the British Council. The evening will feature an impressive panel of women from diverse backgrounds who use networking in their daily professional lives with great success. These women will share tips, approaches and their first-hand experiences on how to utilize your connections and develop strategic relationships.

Meet our amazing panelists, who have had tremendous success building meaningful, successful relationships in both international and national sectors.

Laney Altamar has been on the front lines of the legal staffing industry for over 16 years, and she continues to revel in the opportunity to play an active role in the industry’s evolution. Laney entered the service provider sector by transitioning from client to colleague for a privately held group where she gained balanced skills in recruiting, client development and operations. Laney’s expertise in working with law firms and in-house legal teams focuses on crafting strategic staffing models for eDiscovery and litigation support that build on human resource management, process improvement and project management. Laney has worked on a national level encompassing both primary and secondary markets and myriad practice areas and this will continue in her role with TRU. She is an active member of the eDiscovery community and speaks on trends in Technology Assisted Review efficiencies in document review, Managed Review, project management and trends in recruiting and litigation support.

Mitzi Emrich is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting’s Washington, DC office, where she leads digital and social media engagements for the Americas. Mitzi managed content and social media protocols for Toyota, launched the award-winning web platform for Monsanto’s Produce More, Conserve More global reputation program, managed the National Mining Association’s Minerals Make Life social media campaign and helped Shell introduce its global integrated Facebook platform. Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mitzi served as a Senior Vice President—Group Head at Edelman Public Relations, where her client roster included Microsoft, Humana, Waste Management, AstraZeneca, Darden Restaurants, the American Petroleum Institute, Dairy Management, Inc. Mitzi also previously worked as a public affairs consultant and as a lobbyist and grassroots organizer for the Sierra Club in Washington, DC.

Sandra Gibson is an independent consultant and serves as a Consulting Advisor to the DeVos Institute for Arts Leadership at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and as a consultant to the Smithsonian Institution. She is also a board member at the National Center for Creative Aging, and the Sphinx Organization, and Chair of the National Advisory Board for Smithsonian Folkways Records. Sandra is the former president and CEO of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, the leading service and advocacy organization for the presenting industry worldwide. She also served on the steering committee that formed Americans for the Arts in 1995 and was the organization’s Executive Vice President and COO. Sandra is also currently managing the capital campaign for the China Art Garden at the US National Arboretum.

Sharon Moshavi is an expert in the areas of citizen journalism, digital, and multimedia journalism. For the International Center for Journalist Sharon oversees new project development with an emphasis on developing innovative digital media projects. Previously, she worked as communications manager at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Moshavi reported internationally from Asia and the Middle East for more than a decade, based in New Delhi, Jerusalem and Tokyo, returning to the United States in 2003. She has written for The Boston Globe, Newsday, BusinessWeek, Forbes, The New Republic and U.S. News & World Report, and has produced radio documentaries and essays for NPR, BBC and CBC.

Zeenat Rahman serves as Secretary Kerry’s Special Adviser on Global Youth Issues and Director of the Office of Global Youth Issues (J/GYI). Through a variety of mechanisms, including private sector partnerships, and cooperation with an extensive network of over 50 Youth Councils worldwide, the office amplifies youth issues and supports youth-driven solutions to many of the world’s most pressing problems. Prior to this appointment, Special Adviser Rahman serv ed as Acting Director of the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In this role, she led external engagement efforts with various faith based and community organizations to build support for USAID priorities.

Stephanie L. Schierholz is the manager of Social Media for Raytheon Company. She provides strategic communications guidance to Raytheon’s senior management and is an advocate for incorporating emerging communications technologies into its public outreach activities. Stephanie has more than 10 years’ experience leading strategic communications, media relations and public outreach efforts. Before joining Raytheon in February 2012, she led NASA’s social media activities, including the flagship Twitter account, @NASA, and Facebook page.

Stephanie is the 2012 president for Women in Aerospace (WIA), a nonprofit organization that works to expand opportunities for leadership and increase visibility of women in the aerospace community. Previously, Schierholz was the president-elect, the secretary and the historian for WIA.

Monika Thiele has thirteen years of experience working in international conservation and coastal management in both the public and nonprofit sector. She currently works for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) jointly as a Programme Officer for the Regional Office of North America and for the UN Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species. Monika liaises with US government partners, civil society organizations, and other UNEP regional offices to advance policies in support of UNEPs programme of work. Previous to working for UNEP, she spent four years the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration where she coordinated strategic planning efforts for the National Marine Sanctuary Program and represented the National Ocean Service on NOAA’s Ecosystem Goal Team.
