HOW Women Lead Change

Not Your Traditional Women’s Leadership Conference

by Meg Sullivan, Founder & CEO, Quorum Initiative

It was amazing to see so any Quorum members at the HOW Women Lead Change Forum in New York City on Friday, October 14th and at the welcome dinner at Eleni’s restaurant the previous evening. This is our sixth year of producing the biennial HOW events and it was a reminder that there is nothing quite like being in person to collaborate, innovate and prepare to take action.

While we’re all busy juggling life and career, it is important to take time for ourselves; that’s what provides the space to grow and change. Many attendees spoke about the value in taking a day to nourish themselves – to learn, connect and reflect on where they are now and where they want to be. One enthusiastic attendee described the experience as “priceless”, a sentiment shared by all our speakers.

HOW is not your traditional women’s leadership conference. It’s an intimate discussion forum which brings together female thought-leaders from around the globe – women who have made their mark in a variety of industries through their intelligence, leadership, ingenuity and courage. Our speakers were refreshingly forthright. They shared real stories and experiences – the challenges of being a female leader, especially in male-dominated industries and how they have climbed the ladder of success. Together we explored topics such as building a personal board of directors, how to be a champion for change, exerting organizational influence, navigating career paths, values-based leadership, investing as and investing in women and more. Each session concluded with a call to action and ideas for “HOW” to get it done.

What also makes the HOW forum special is the incredible giving spirit of our speakers. They are participants too and join in the rich conversations and important learnings helping to take the experience to another level whether it’s sharing of themselves over a meal or during session exchanges throughout the day.

Thanks to everyone who attended. You created a unique environment of intimacy, connection and inspiration for action. For those of you who couldn’t join us, I hope you’ll mark your calendar for May 20 – 21 for our 2023 HOW Retreat that will take place in Narrowsburg, New York and for November 3rd for our 2023 HOW Women Lead Change forum. Retreat registration will be available starting in January.
