Meg’s 2019 Action Update
June 26, 2019
Money ignites movements. Women already hold the power to demand change by actively investing and consuming with our values. In the spirit of this idea, I want to share an encounter I recently had with a woman who designed her entire business around her beliefs and is still succeeding 35 years later.
Egoless, quiet, courageous and intentional. This is my definition of Eileen Fisher’s leadership style. Have you ever seen that combination of attributes in a leader? I haven’t. Her business journey is remarkable. Her sustainable success undeniable. Her leadership approach is unique. 25 years ago she hired a director of social consciousness. Management meetings are held in collaborative circles where all opinions are expressed and heard. No outside capital was used to build the business. They are a B corp certified benefit corporation and heavily employee owned. Their goal is achieving 100% sustainability by 2020. Conscious consumption is an ethos.
All these things are impressive and commendable, but what left me wanting more was time with the understated, beautifully warm and enchanting individual – Eileen Fisher. Meeting her had such an impact on me that I can’t stop talking about her. Eileen is doing her part to lead change. Let’s inspire each other to do the same.
