The Paradox Of Progress In Women’s History Month 2024

Meg Sullivan
Founder and CEO, Quorum Initiative
Aspen Institute First Fellow

Meg Sullivan, an Aspen Institute First Fellow, was recently asked to pen an article for the Aspen Institute Business & Society Program, titled, “Explaining The Paradox Of Progress In Women’s History Month 2024.”

In the article which ran on LinkedIn on March 27th, Meg asks, “As we close out Women’s History Month, do we have reason to celebrate women’s social and economic advancement?”

She says that “Ironically for Women’s History Month, March also marks the month in which the average U.S. woman finally catches up to the previous year’s earnings of the average U.S. man. This year, reports the National Committee on Pay Equity, women had to work until March 12th just to catch up to what male counterparts had already earned by December 31st of last year. For women of color, the time to catch up stretches even later into the year. This is just one, obvious measure of trailing progress for women.”

In Case You Missed It…

Raising Voices in the Latinx Community

Our Quorum Speaker Series recently featured “Raising Voices in the Latinx Community” with María José Ramírez Braiz and moderator Gurjot Sidhu.

María José, CEO and Founder, Te Lo Cuento News; Founder, Latinos Connect and a CNN and Univision Contributor discussed the work she’s doing to raise voices in the Latinx community and ways we can all support and learn from this diverse community.

At María José’s suggestion, Quorum is beginning a quarterly Leadership Series in Spanish for Native-Spanish Speakers in September.

Calls to Action from the session included:

  • Mentor Latinas
  • Adopt an attitude of “Why not?” rather than “Why?”
  • Be curious and welcoming to Latinas in your community
  • Help Quorum get the word out about our upcoming quarterly Leadership Series for Native-Spanish Speakers
